The Future of Hygienically Active Textiles

Ortner Reinraumtechnik presents a globally unique textile technology that achieves up to 99.99% germ reduction (≥ Log 4) directly on the textile surface through exposure to light whether daylight or artificial lighting. No bio cides, silver ions, or toxic chemicals are used. Instead, the disinfecting effect is generated solely by a specially developed photosensitizer dye, which is permanently embedded into the fiber using conventional dyeing processes. This sustainable technology addresses a multi billion‑dollar market, offers strong unique selling points, and is of immediate high interest to a wide range of industries.

A World First with High Disruption Potential

The patented Ortner technology enables textiles, for the first time, to become independently hygienically active, without releasing additives, without health risks, and without the development of resistance. A specially developed photosensitizer dye is permanently integrated into the fiber using conventional dyeing processes. When the textile is exposed to daylight or artificial light, the dye is activated and produces singlet oxygen, a reactive form of oxygen that rapidly, re sidue‑free, and reliably destroys micro organisms on the textile surface. This technology has been developed and validated over a period of 15 years in close collaboration with leading research institutes and universities

"In the research area at the German Heart Center Munich, we have relied on Ortner's photodynamic decontamination technology for several years. By using PDc clothing in combination with the PDc personal air shower, personnel can be effectively decontaminated while clothed. After work, the clothing is placed in the PDc wardrobe, decontaminated and ready for repeated use. This system eliminates the need for disposable clothing and constant changes of clothing. The added benefit is that the special PDc garments are more comfortable to wear than other RR protective suits."
