Decontamination Using Light

PDcT (Photodynamic Disinfection certified Technology) is a process developed and patented by Ortner for the effective, microbiological killing and inactivation of germs, bacteria and viruses on surfaces.

Instead of chemistry, the power of light works here.

In this way, Ortner naturally declares war on the formation of anti- resistances and the spread of contamination.

PDcT is absolutely harmless to humans.

PDc dyed protective clothing even made it possible for the first time to decontaminate people in their working environment. This protects the respective person themselves and minimizes the transmission of germs and pathogens to other people.

What is Photodynamics?

Photodynamics is a reaction of light with light- absorbing molecules.

This produces a surface- bound singueltt oxygen with a high disinfecting effect.

When the light energy is removed, the molecule changes back to its original state.

Photosensitizer & Light

Irradiation produces highly reactive oxygen species that destroy the cell structure of the membrane of viruses and bacteria by oxidation, leading to the desired effect of killing germs.

Graphically, neither a photosensitizer, nor light alone have an effect. A photosensitizer and light together, however, can cause changes in the organism.

Active Principle of Photodynamics (PDcT)

The photodynamic effect is mediated by photooxidative reactions.

With the aid of a specific textile dye and a suitable light source, the light- induced oxygen production is harnessed as a disinfectant at the "point of use", ale in the immediate vicinity of the microorganisms.

Active Principle of Photodynamics (PDcT)

In the Type I process, a direct interaction of an excited photosensitizer with the surrounding substrates develops and generates radicals or radical ions such as HO* and superoxide anions (O2*).

In the Type II mechanism, a singlet oxygen is formed by direct energy transfer from the triplet state. In both cases, the reactive oxygen oxidizes the cell wall, cell membrane on peptides and lipids.

The technical principle of PDc technology is the dyeing of a suitable textile with a photoreactive dye (photosensitizer).

According to this principle, the Dastat-PDc fabric was developed, which produces an antimicrobial effect with the help of a specific dye and irradiation with light.

Lighting technology as an activator

The decisive factor for the effectiveness of PDc technology is the choice of a suitable light source.

The special LED technologies used allow the use of wavelengths from the visible light range and are completely safe for the user.
